Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

There are many great artists in history created a lot of artworks or contribution to the society. They dedicated their whole life by learning or doing research in order to achieve their goal and produce the good works. Creative people or great artists like philosophy of Plato, Newton's Laws of Motion, Jackson Pollock with his "Action Painting", The Beatles' influential Sgt. Pepper's album, films of Steven Spielberg, Michael Jackson's moonwalk and so on.

Johanna E Dickhut writes on the meaning of creativity and association of creativity to novelty. He states that it is a universal factor and novelty requires originality and newness.

Nowadays, we have the different thought based on the word of "creativity". Every healthy human being has creativity but we only have creativity for the domain of certain intellectual people or it is something gifted to certain individual and group of people only in the previous years.

Sternberg proposed that there is a dialectical relationship between intelligence wisdom and creativity.
We are not only generate idea but also need to analysis it although we are intelligent enough.
Intelligence is not enough for all. But in order to further analysis those ideas that are generated, then there must be higher intelligence.
As a conclusion, a creative and intelligence person may produce a novel idea, but without wisdom, the novel idea maybe "foolish" or inappropriate (Dickhut. J E).


Creating Image of Public Figure - Hayao Miyazaki

Occupation: Film Director, Character Designer, Screenwriter

Years Active: 1963 - present

About him: He is a prominent Japanese filmmaker of many popular animated feature films. He is also a co-founder of Studio Ghibli, an animation studio and production of company.
Hayao Miyazaki, the reason that we choose him is because of his creativity in telling stories in his film and produces a lot of creative films to us. We always get a lot of inspiration from his film or animation. That’s why we admire him so much and regard him as the person we want to learn from.

First and foremost, this Japanese guy becomes the well-known person in this world because of his film and story which motivated and influenced people. Miyazaki's films often incorporate recurrent themes, likes humanity’s relationship to nature and technology, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. He always has something to tell inside his art piece. Miyazaki was voted from Times Magazine to become one of the most influential Asian of the past 60 years in 2006. Besides that, in 2005, he was named one of the Time 100 Most Influential People.

Miyazaki’s animations implicitly criticize the adverse impact of humans on nature. For example, Princess Mononoke or Mononoke- Hime(1997) which is a story about the struggling between the nature, animal spirit and the humans who exploit the forest for industry. Miyazaki takes a leading role when creating his films; he is the writer, and also director. His creations are able to influenced people; change your original view of the world. A number of Western authors have influenced Miyazaki's work, including Ursula K. Le Guin, Levis Carroll, and Diana Wynne Jones. Miyazaki confided to Le Guin that Earthsea had been a great influence on all his works, and that he kept her books at his bedside. As a conclusion, he will be our choices when choosing the most creative person for us. All his works and the rewards he get is already proved that.

Today, my class reflection for whole lesson is able to differentiate the meaning of novelty, creativity, innovation and invention. Besides, i get to know some great artists who left the significant footprint behind them and creative people always see the thing differently. And also make the life easier as well as bring in change to the society by creating something to solve the problem.
